The Balm We Have Forgotten Jeremiah 8:18-22

Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people? Jeremiah 8:22

Across many nations today, we see growing pain, division, violence, hopelessness, and spiritual emptiness. People search for answers through politics, wealth, entertainment, and human wisdom, yet many hearts remain wounded. The prophet Jeremiah mourned over a nation that had turned away from God and suffered deeply because of it.

Jeremiah’s words are still speaking today. He cried out for healing because the people had abandoned truth, compassion, and obedience to God. Though they appeared strong outwardly, inwardly the nation was spiritually sick.

Yet even in sorrow, Jeremiah pointed to hope. He asked, “Is there no balm in Gilead?” Balm was a healing medicine known in biblical times. Today, true healing for individuals, families, and nations is still found in God through repentance, prayer, compassion, and returning to His ways.

Healing begins when hearts turn back to God. It grows when communities care for one another, speak truth, help the vulnerable, and walk in love and humility.

At Bethel Foundation, we believe healing involves both spiritual and physical restoration. As we serve communities through health education, outreach, and encouragement, we also pray for renewed hearts, restored families, and nations that once again seek the wisdom and mercy of God.

There is still balm in Gilead. There is still hope. And God still heals.
